This is one of, the best straight up trashy Punk records I've heard by a French band since the TV KIllers last album. Every song has a trademark itchy guitar sound that just totally perks my ears. Falling somewhere between a straight-up retro '77 Punk band and Killed By Death Euro-punk, Flying Over throws it back to the days when bands like the TV Killers and Spash Four ruled the French punk scene. Flying Over sound like TV Killers mixed with a bit of The Stitches, and other bands from the ‘90s who were wearing their ‘77 punk/KBD style proudly. This LP is packed with a slew of mid-tempo snotty Punk Rock hits including standouts “Outsiders” and “Chillax Riders”. Fans of TV Killers, the Kids, Vibrators, Saints and Ramones need to hear this one. RECOMMENDED! (Tom)

JUST SOME PUNK SONGS (UK) - September 2014

FLYING OVER, from Bordeaux, France have been playing for a long time (they started back in 1996!), but as crazy as it sounds, I never had the chance to listen to them or see them live before… Mostly influenced by the rock music scene from ’77 (early punk) to early 80s (American new wave) and garage, the band sometimes evokes The BRIEFS(“Outsiders”, “You Don’t Know My Worst”) or even BLONDIE(“Nothing Should Be Long.”)
Snotty female/male vocals, speed-up tempos and RAMONES guitar riff and danceable (sometimes in a CRAMPS way) tunes (“Back Up Of My Life”, “TV Tower”, “I am Not a Substitute”…) you’ll get all the ingredients that make this style loveable. It all reminds me the early 00s when there was actually a scene in France for that style, remember the NEUROTIC SWINGERS? The HATEPINKS…? Of course, we also can’t forget to mention the legendary T.V KILLERS(from the same area.)
They admit they sold their soul to rock’n’roll, so check FLYING OVERget your fun fix!

FLYING OVER was actually formed in 1996 in La Rochelle, but they're since 2007 oprerating from Bordeaux, this group of dedicated French punkrockers really takes the legacy of '77-punk through a genuine bath of 90s reshuffled refreshing to an an outcome that really, really counts and stands out proud. Probably the best best thing to happen to French punkrock since the hugely missed TV Killers called it quits. "We Are Outsiders" is the band's 3rd full album and runs parallel lines alongside the bands contagious and continiously vibrant, exciting live performances. Parallel lines  as to the 12 presented tracks allow one to experience the developed skills by each of the band members to show the made efforts of mastered abilities in dishing up a tantalizing set of uptempo ragers, midtempo bounchers and squeaky punchers to win each of you over instantly. This band has grown, gained by investing in playing and touring as much as possible and it does pay off. "We Are Outsiders" mixes up the best of US/Canadian punkrock/power pop without loosing touch with the essential UK-roots and adding yet that extra spicey touch taken from the late 80s/90s wave of garagepunk revival. FLYING OVER really deserves to be listed alongside likewise European 'outsiders' as The Geestrings, The NaziDogs, Demolition Girl, The Spivs, .... Comes in a total D.I.Y. effort done by 3 like minded self-run small label operation from the southwest French region and with cute drawing signed by a certain Van Gogo. FLYING OVER We Are Outsiders LP

Third album from these Frenchies in the decade they roam the european  streets and yet again on their own Adrenalin Fix Label. DIY or die! These three boys'n'girl are really passionate about what they're doing and you could tell from this record, the way they deal with it and how they enjoy rawking out on stage. They continue the direction they took on their previous album, the great "No One Here Gets Out Alive!", although there are more mid tempo tracks on here and some more raw, late 70's power pop got injected into their '77 punk sound. But there's nothing cheesy or slick about this record. Nope, Flying Over ends up as a perfect crossbreed between the Buzzcoks and the Kids, and the joined male/female vocals  they incorporated really do the trick here, resulting in some ace tracks like "Outsiders", "You Don't Know My Worst", "I'm Not A Substitute" or "Nothing Should Be Long". Twelve tracks, zero stinkers, fuck yeah!! (Wim Retard)

"Flying Over" c'est un peu comme "Retour vers le futur". Comme si un savant fou avait projeté Jet Boy, Jet Girl et ses acolytes dans le temps, quelque part vers la fin des années 70, à une époque où des groupes comme 999, Adverts, Damned, X-Ray Spex ou Undertones nous pondaient tous les trois jours des singles épatants et où le truc le plus excitant au monde était le punk-rock. La pochette de ce nouvel album, avec ses trames rouges et noires, ajoute un peu plus à la confusion. A-t-elle était dessinée par Serge Clerc aux alentours de 1978 ? Mais en y regardant de plus près, on découvre une signature en bas à droite : Vangogo'13. Bonne nouvelle : Flying Over est revenu parmis nous en 2014 ! Retour vers le futur je vous dis ! Hergeleitet von französischen KBD-Archetypen wie THE DOGS, LES OLIVENSTEINS und ASPHALT JUNGLE, mit THE SAINTS, BUZZCOCKS und THE KIDS im Sinn und potenziert mit französischen Post-Rip-Off-Sonnenbrillenpunks à la TV KILLERS, HATEPINKS oder NEUROTIC SWINGERS ergibt die Summe im Sound ebenso schnörkellosen 77er-Schüttelpunk, wie ihm FLYING OVER auf ihrem dritten Album verfallen sind. Nöliger Wechselgesang zwischen Jet Boy und Jet Girl, eine gelegentlich durchklingende Schlagseite gen Sixties-Garage und spartanischer Verzicht auf aufgeblasenen Produktionshumbug sind wie eh und je die Charakteristiken der selbsterklärten „Rockin’ Frenchies“. Elf Eigenkompositionen sowie eine Covernummer – „TV tower“ von DEMOLITION GIRL & THE STRAWBERRY BOYS – haben sie auf „We Are The Outsiders“ vorzuweisen, auf dem sie im Vergleich zu den beiden vorangegangen Alben sowie drei Singles am stimmigsten wirken. Von einer Entwicklung zu reden, wäre jedoch Quatsch, denn in dem eng gesteckten stilistischen Rahmen ist dafür kein Platz, aber dass ihr mal shakender, mal sägender Retro-Punk hier am griffigsten klingt, lässt sich festhalten. Kurzum: was FLYING OVER hier machen, das können sie wirklich gut und das ist Punkrock voller Johnny-Thunders-Gedächtnisriffs und mit „Sehr gut Rock’n’Roll!“-Insignie. (8) (Matti Bildt)

Portraits des artistes par van Gogo, on ne se refuse rien chez Flying Over! Si nous comptons bien, c'est leur deuxième album. Où ils continuent à peaufiner une dynamique pop punk du meilleur effet. C'est bien écrit et parfaitement mis en forme par l'ex Mad Monster Party Michel Toledo, garçon qui sait ce que bon son veut dire! Et si, de lui-même, le quator Bordelais agite volontiers la bannière garage rock, c'est plus volontiers au punk 77 que fait penser ce disque. Une filiation qui renvoie aux Boys des deux premiers albums, aux Buzzcocks parfois (I sell my soul To Rock'n'Roll) ou encore à Blondie avant le virage radiophonique. 12 morceaux ramassés, propulsés par une impeccable rythmique, une guitare tronçonneuse et ce qu'il faut de bons refrains pour faire prendre la sauce. Indifféremment chantés par elle ou lui - Jet Boy / Jet Girl - avec cette urgence qui caractérisait la période. Onze originaux pour une seule reprise, TV Tower, oeuvre de Demolition Girl & The Strawberry Boys. Des Allemands. Autant dire de parfaits inconnus! Ce qui n'est plus tout à fait le cas de Flying Over. Qui, sur la seule foi de ce disque, mériteraient l'être de moins en moins! (Alain Freydri)

≪ Je serais incapable de te dire si Flying Over correspond à une quelconque mode ou pas. Je ne me suis jamais posé la question. C’est quoi, la hype ? C’est avoir une frange ou une moustache? ≫ Dans une ville qui aime bien jouer sur les codes, Ludo, frontman des Flying Over, parait honnêtement bloque dans un monde dont les standards auraient été fixes, disons, en 1977.
≪ Pour moi, c’est sûr, la mode est un peu figée dans le passé. Je suis un fan de garage punk rock. J’écoute des groupes actuels, mais avant tout des productions des 60’s et des 70’s. J’ai une école. ≫ Bordeaux regorge de groupes qui font parler d’eux, mais Ludo avoue tout de go : ≪ Je ne les connais pas. Nous, on monte nos tournées et on sort nos disques. Cela dit, je pense que les gens, ici, comme ailleurs, continuent à écouter du rock’n’roll et à bien aimer ça. ≫ Flying Over poursuit une voie ouverte par d’autres real rockers locaux de la trempe des TV Killers et des Magnetix – ≪ On est différents sur le plan artistique, mais dans l’esprit on a une culture identique et la même démarche. ≫ Pour fêter le dixième anniversaire de leur propre label Adrenalin Fix Music, Flying Over se donne en concert gratuit dans le club de la Rock School : ≪ On voit ça comme l’occasion de passer un bon moment.
Et si les gens aiment le concert, ils pourront toujours acheter le disque. ≫ Nouvel album disponible en 33 tours vinyle, bien entendu. Pour le CD, il faudra taper dans les stocks de l’édition... japonaise ! Cette date bordelaise est le signal de départ pour de nouvelles aventures sur les routes européennes. Quant aux concerts au Japon, c’est un projet pour 2015.

JUNKPAGE MAGAZINE # 10 

Troisième album pour le groupe bordelo-rochelais en activité depuis la fin des années 90 (mais oui!). Autant dire qu'ils connaissent leur sujet sur le bout des doigts. Punk'n'roll de première bourre, on pense aux  Kids, Teenage Head, Hubble Bubble, Registrators ("She's Alone") et évidemment à leur mentors, les TV Killers, dont ils se sont quand même bien démarqués... Et c'est tant mieux! Assurément la meilleure production du groupe avec un son tout à fait bandant (l'inévitable Michel Toledo, qui suit le groupe depuis quelques années). Une seule reprise sur "We Are Outsiders",le "TV Tower" des punkers allemands Demolition Girl & The Strawberry Boys (la famille!). (Lo' Spider)

"FLYING OVER, bien pLus que des outsiders": J'ai découvert Flying Over au détour d'un méandre du net et le hasard fait parfois bien les choses . En effet , Flying Over est un sacré groupe punk qui connait sa théorie sur le bout des doigts et maîtrise également la pratique à la perfection avec son dernier album "We are outsiders " .Avec plus d'une dizaine d'années d'expérience sur les routes Flying Over s'est construit une solide réputation sur la scène garage punk rock mais aussi un bagage technique qui s'entend très vite et fait la différence sur disque. En plus on capte aisément l'influence des très grands anciens ( Sex Pistols, The Clash , The Saints) et des plus récents ( TV Killers ) tout en ayant préservé la touche d'originalité de ces 4 français. Aujourd'hui, avec la sortie de leur troisième album "We Are Outsiders" c'est une confirmation qui s'amorce et je pense qu'ils ne seront plus très longtemps des "outsiders" dans le paysage musical rock. En effet , d'entrée ,le premier titre ( "Outsiders" donc ) sert une urgence punk combinée avec une grande qualité de composition pour aboutir à une belle chanson qui me fait parfois penser à "Orgasm addict" des Buzzcocks. Puis c'est l'absolument parfait " Nothing should be long " , punk mélodique où une ligne de basse de toute beauté et une rythmique entêtante font de cette chanson tout simplement un hymne punk potentiel . "You don't know my worst " reste à peu près au même niveau : celui d'un rock incendiaire qui déboule à très grande vitesse vers vos oreilles .Souvent , les groupes punk tombent dans la facilité de l'énergie brute et la maîtrise instrumentale sans travailler la mélodie et le phrasé du chant pour tomber net à chaque vers . Flying over ne fait pas ces erreurs et au contraire fait preuve d'un grand talent mélodique et d'une parfaite maîtrise de l'écriture ( " She's alone " ). Et avec un titre comme " Fuckin' smile " c'est la démonstration immédiate que les variations de rythme et la batterie sont au coeur du style Flying over. J'aime beaucoup également le massif et frontal " TV Tower" , hymne hypnotique pour les concerts en furie et également le très british " I sell my soul to rock and roll " magnifié et soutenu par une basse jouissive . " Turning mad " ," I am not your substitute" et "Like a zombie" sont du même acabit : punk abrasif de haute volée où on sent que les quatre membres de Flying over prennent un immense plaisir à jouer ensemble.Avec ce " We are outsiders" , Flying over se place plutôt à mon sens dans la catégorie des valeurs sûres : celle où vous savez qu'on vous servira , que ce soit sur disque ou sur scène , une musique dense , pleine et de grande qualité . Quand les fondamentaux sont maîtrisés comme ici , la création est plus simple , plus libre pour aboutir à une belle oeuvre.Pour écouter " We are outsiders" de Flying over , rendez vous sur leur page Reverbnation . FLYING OVER " We Are Outsiders" LP: Zweiter Longplayer von den Franzosen, die uns vor 3 Jahren eine ganz ordentliche aber nicht so smarte Scheibe wie diese hier vorlegten. Gespielt wird nöliger ´77er Punk mit feistem Garage-Einschlag, der auch bestens auf die alten KBD-Comps gepasst hätte. Man bewegt sich im musikalischen Dunstkreis von Kombos wie den Kids, Manikins mit Ausflügen zu den Gories und vor allem bei dem Megahit "i sell my soul to r´n´r" nach den Ghetto Ways.

Combo punk'n'roll des plus réjouissants, français de surcroit, Flying Over nous livre des morceaux catchy, simples et efficaces dans la lignée des Vibrators, Saints (période "Stranded"), Teenage Head ou autre Generation X... A ne pas rater!

FLYING OVER « We are outsiders » (Adrenalin Fix Music / Turborock Records / Stryckhnine Recordz): Au sortir de leur concert à Mont de Marsan, un mec me disait : " j’aime bien le garage mais des fois ils en font un peu trop, y a des riffs partout "...je l’ai regardé avec des yeux exorbités en me remémorant les premiers titres écoutés de leur nouvel opus mais aussi ce concert mais d'où sortait donc ce mec ? « We are outsiders » le nouveau skeud c’est complètement l’inverse de ce commentaire et « I’m not a substitute » en est l’exemple parfait, la mélodie avant tout, une mélodie limpide, simplifiée. En avançant dans le disque, dans l’esprit c’est clair qu'on note des similitudes avec The Hives, on est dans le rock garage mais avec un fond pop qui fait la différence, « Back up of my life » en est à son tour l’exemple détonnant…parfait équilibre, on écouterait ce morceau des heures. Au début de leur prestation montoise, prenant la suite d’un groupe local performant, la première réaction du public fut l’attente, il ne connaissait pas…et puis petit à petit on a vu que la sauce prenait, sur le 3ème, les pieds, les cous, les bassins bougeaient. Peu de gens par chez nous les connaissaient mais il était évident comme sur le « Fucking smile » de l’album qu’il ne pouvait en être autrement, que la sauce allait prendre. Je sais pas si ce que je vais dire est adapté ou pas mais pour moi le garage des Flying Over à la particularité d’être joyeux, on n’est pas dans le trip sectaire, ça se partage de manière frénétique et ne me dîtes pas que« Nothing should be long » vous laisse indifférent c’est impossible ! ! ! Idem pour « Outsider » et « She’s alone », « You don’t know my worst » c’est évident !Après, autre point qui fasse la différence chez eux c’est l’alternance de chant entre Jet Boy et Jet Girl, un ton différent forcément mais une même manière de marteler le rock’n roll, carrée, percutante…et je n’oublie pas en plus de tout ça le fait que j’adore le bassiste, sa dégaine est classe, sa gestuelle, l’attitude, bon là évidemment on est sur disque mais je ne peux me départir de cette image. Le batteur ? Sec, carré, pierre fondamentale du système, dans ce style si le batteur n’assure pas ou à contrario en fait trop ça capote, là rien à redire. Un disque essentiel, un groupe essentiel, un bon esprit, à défendre par tous les moyens ! (Yan Kerforn)

Brandneues Album der Franzosen! Flying Over aus Bordeaux spielen schnörkellosen 77-Punk, der oft an Landsleute wie Hatepinks, Aggravation oder Neurotic Swingers erinnert, wobei Flying Over eher schleppender zu Werke gehen und mit sexy Frau/Mann – Gesang aufwarten. Wer auf New York- Punk der ersten Stunde und die oben genannten Bands steht kann hier auf keinen Fall was falsch machen. (Monster)

Evident! Encore un cran au-dessus du précédent lp (pourtant, la barre était haute) les Bordelais et leur punk rock power pop signent un nouveau bienfait pour l'humanité rock'n'roll ! De la gouaille, du bon goût, du rock'n'roll et pas de prise de tête. Le genre de disque qui vous rappelle plein de (bons) trucs que vous avez accumulé dans un coin de votre cerveau... Voilà bien un disque qu'il est bon !

Flying Over - 'We Are Outsiders' (Adrenalin Fix Music/Turborock Records/ Stryckhnine Recordz 2013):

A pesar de llevar ya más de diez años currándoselo en la carretera, de haberse recorrido Europa con su directo e incluso habiendo visitado nuestro país más de una vez dejándonos muestra de sus incendiarias descargas, tal vez Flying Over todavía no sean todo lo conocidos por aquí que merecerían. Recién editado está "We Are Outsiders", el nuevo disco de esta banda de Burdeos que hace ya el tercero de su carrera y que ojalá signifique un aumento de su popularidad.

Tomando el punk rock -aderezado con algunas pinceladas de garage- como base y explotando un sonido crudo pero lo suficientemente limpio a la vez, el cuarteto francés ha facturado otro álbum de canciones directas que remiten directamente a los momentos clásicos del género. Son doce temas en los que las voces de Jet Girl y Jet Boy (también guitarrista) se dan el contrapunto mutuo y alcanzan nuevas cotas de musicalidad, algo que, en una escena en la que tal vez ya esté todo inventado, les aporta un toque diferencial que les aleja de tantas otras bandas genéricas. Esto es algo que, en un estilo tradicionalmente tan inmovilista como es el punk rock, es un punto a favor. Debo reincidir además en una producción que me parece perfecta para una banda como ellos, donde han encontrado el equilibrio perfecto entre la simpleza y la crudeza por un lado y un sonido donde cada instrumento tiene su espacio y puede distinguirse sin necesidad de forzar el oído. Simplemente me encanta.   

Pero es que además de todo lo anterior hay más, porque Flying Over saben muy bien lo que se traen entre manos y así lo demuestran con doce composiciones en las que suenan totalmente compactos y con una dosis justa de melodía que aporta frescura al conjunto, en perfecto equilibrio también con su potencia habitual. Además la sección rítmica formada por T Boy al bajo y Gun Boy a la batería suena perfectamente engrasada y funciona como un preciso martillo mecánico, aportando el empaque necesario a las canciones.

Todavía no tengo claro si "We Are Outsiders" supera a su anterior "No One Here Gets Alive", pero de momento ya tengo en "She's Alone" una de mis canciones preferidas de la temporada. REVIEWS - “NO ONE HERE GETS OUT ALIVE” album (2010/2011):

we've been on the tail of these Frenchies since the release of their debut album back in '04 and each time we heard or saw 'em they gained in maturity and quality. From the 7"s they released throughout the last couple o' years you could tell the many years on the road had sharpened the band's songs, sound and skills. The rip Offs - meets -Dwarves approach from their debut got turned in for a full-on '77 Punk attack and fully blossoms on these 11 tracks. Fuck, this actually sounds like a modern day Kids! Some tunes are know from their 7"s (like all three tracks - too bad!- off their "Are You A Punk", be it the 7" recordings are a bit more basically put to tape) some brand new, some fast, some mid-tempo, but they all got one common factor: they rip you a new fucker! Me thinks this band is heavily underrated and undernoticed, so it's time to stand up and take care of business!!

77er Retro-Punk der Oberklasse, genau die Art von Krawall, die man seit jeher von französischen Punkbands gewöhnt ist und nicht missen möchte. Wenn es mal wieder ansteht, zünftig das Tanzbein zu schwingen und sich auf die Creepers wahlweise Chucks trampeln zu lassen und die KIDS gerade nicht zur Hand sind, die SEX PISTOLS zu teuer sind und die DOGS aus Frankreich ohnehin schon längst Geschichte, dann kann man stattdessen auch zu FLYING OVER torkeln. Nicht ohne Grund hatte ich einmal vor, diese Band für ein kleines Stelldichein zu buchen, was jedoch leider an finanziellen Engpässen meinerseits scheiterte. Dass ich dementsprechend etwas Negatives sagen würde, kann nicht erwartet werden. Völlig subjektiv und damit völlig im Recht, weil ganz in der Tradition der großartigen TV KILLERS oder NO-TALENTS, und wer sich außerdem Namen wie Jet Boy und Jet Girl gibt, kann ohnehin nur gewinnen. Ganz am Rande aber noch eins: die Songs in der Muttersprache knallen am besten, mehr davon bitte.

The cover has a sort of EPOXIES feel to it. Wow!!! This is 77' old school punk rock in a mid-tempo, catchy, but not wimpy style. The Frenchies know their history when it comes to punk rock. They know that punk is simple, straightforward, not meant to be complicated. Heavily influenced by the TV KILLERS, SEX PISTOLES and KBD bands. They actually were on the P.Trash Killed By Trash Vol.1 compilation! 3 songs, clear vinyl.

This French band seems to have delt with quite a few line-up changes, which is once more the case since they have relocated from La Rochelle to join the wild Rock & Roll nightlife in Bordeaux. Their 'Rockin' Frenchies' we bought a few years ago sounded like early RIP OFF bands with at times a shot of DWARVES and this is the first time we hear 'em again. 'Danger Boy' and 'Fier de déplaire' are two fast and tigght punk tracks that are heavily influenced by those other 'Fuckin' Frenchies', the TV KILLERS, who blasted around Europe in the late '90s. 'I wanna destroy you' on the flip is a total '77 stomper that reminds a good deal of the SEX PISTOLS, without the cockney accent! For sure a cool release for all you punk lovers out there!

Le groupe bordelais sous perfusion TV Killers (de la pochette aux covers comme 'Do You Love The Nazis?' des Kids, jusqu'au titre de leur premier album de 2004, Rockin'Frenchies) revient sur le front avec un tout nouveau line-up autour du couple Jet Boy - Jet Girl, Gun Boy à la batterie, Lichen Boy (ex-Jakes, Hero-X) à la basse et Law Boy (Heartbeeps et dernier guitariste en date des TV's). Evidemment vous vous doutez bien qu'ils ne tapent pas dans la disco hein, c'est du punk rock tendu et nerveux. Les trois tites de ce 45t édités par le label d'Annecy Shit In Can explore l'univers sale du groupe avec notamment un 'Fier de Déplaire' en Français et un excellent mid-tempo en face B, 'I Wanna Destroy You' (pas celui des Soft Boys). Un bel envol même s'ils ont un peu de mal à se démarquer de leur(s) influence(s).

Flying Over has been at it since 1996, and I can't believe this is thier first 7'. It's a good one! Falling somewhere in between straight-up retro '77 and Killed By Death Euro-punk, Flying Over throws it back to the days when the likes of TV Killers and Spash Four ruled the French punk scene. Boasting fantastic names (Jet Boy, Jet Girl, Gun Boy, Hero Boy) and unassailable influences (Saints, Sex Pistols, Kids, Vibrators), these Frenchie tock n' rollers could very well induce a worldwide revival of pogo dancing. A-side cuts 'Danger Boy' and 'Fier De Deplaire' burn fast and furious - the former sparked by a call-and-response exchange between Jet Boy and his wife Jet Girl, the latter sung in French and bringing to mind the early Stitches. On the B-side, 'I Wanna Destroy You' eases back the speed a tad and snarls in a classic Pistols style. It also kind of reminds me of 'Cherry Bomb' by The Runaways - which can only be a good thing!

Os Flying Over são uma formação já com dez anos, com poucos registos e muitas mudanças, agora sediados em La Rochelle (Bordéus - França) onde existe um marcante e forte movimento de garage-punk, estando isso bem demonstrado neste 7', que para além de muito competente não soa a nada que não tenhamos já escutado, destacando-se 'Fier de Deplaire', que é muito aconselhável.

Un groupe qui évolue depuis quelques années entre Bordeaux et La Rochelle avec notamment un ancien Tv Killers mais qui a vu passer également pas mal de monde qui ont joué dans d'autres groupes punk garage dont la région regorge (4teen Killers, 80's Furies, Sexy girls and Go-Go Men Show, Jerky Turkey, Jakes, Hero X). Les trois morceaux sont super bien et sonnent dans la tradition des Tv Killers avec un petit coté No talents pour les choeurs féminins sur les deux chansons en anglais. Il y a aussi la chanson typique 77 en français «Fier de déplaire» façon Dominique Laboubé en plus viril. Bref un bon disque de punk rock pour les amateurs de French Touch et, comme le vinyle est transparent, et bah on voit à travers. M.

Flying Over has been around for 10 years and have previously released the 'Rockin' Frenchies' album including an Infections cover!

Ils ont eu le bassiste des TV Killers comme CPE au Lycée et maintenant on voit le resultat: du Frenchie Rock'n'Roll dans la lignée des Hero-X, Gasolheads, Pneumonias et bien sûr TV Killers! All right! France's Flying Over is definitely a Now Wave kind of band! The group has been at it since 1996, and put out a CD back in '04. But I believe this is its first 7'. It's a good one! Boasting fantastic names (Jet Boy, Jet Girl, Gun Boy, Hero Boy) and unassailable influences (Saints, Sex Pistols, Kids, Vibrators), these Frenchie punk n' rollers could very well induce a worldwide revival of pogo dancing. A-side cuts 'Danger Boy' and 'Fier De Deplaire' burn fast and furious - the former sparked by a call-and-response exchange between Jet Boy and his wife Jet Girl, the latter sung in French and bringing to mind the early Stitches. On the B-side, 'I Wanna Destroy You' eases back the speed a tad and snarls in a classic Pistols style. It also kind of reminds me of 'Cherry Bomb' by The Runaways - which can only be a good thing! So there you have it, ladies and gentlemen: Flying Over does old style punk right. Now Wave Nation, this is a band to check out!

This French band seems to have dealt with quite a few line-up changes, which is once more the case since they have relocated from La Rochelle to join the wild R'n'R nightlife in Bordeaux. Their 'Rockin' Frenchies' we bought a few years ago sounded like the early Rip Off bands with at times a shot of Dwarves and this is the first time we hear 'em again. 'Danger Boy' and 'Fier De Deplaire' are two fast and tight punk tracks that are heavily influenced by those other 'Fuckin' Frenchies', the TV Killers, who blasted around Europe in the late 90's. 'I Wanna Destroy You!' on the flip is a total '77 stomper that reminds a good deal of the Sex Pistols, without the cockney accent! For sure a cool release for all you punk lovers out there!

More Frenchie garage-punk who I recall appearing on the P.Trash KBD covers comp, these Flying Over boys and girls play a hopped-up Nineties-style sort of thing, like the TV Killers after some doses of HGH perhaps. 'Danger Boy' will please fans of Jerry Spider Gang or Gasolheads, if such things exist. 'Fier De Deplaire' is a nice cut, and the singer sounds a lot more comfortable in his native tongue. 'I Wanna Destory You' is not a cover, thank God, but a mid-tempo blue collar punker. Not a real memorable record. It did do me the favor of sending me off on a Soft Boys kick for the rest of the evening however. Scum stats: 500 copies, clear vinyl, three label split release (the Frantic City, Shit in Can and Adrenalin Fix labels all pooled resources on this one...with Shit In Can obviously having the far superior name. And hey, Adrenalin Fix was the title of a TV Killers record, making this review come full circle and allowing me stop typing...)

REVIEWS - "ROCKIN' FRENCHIES" album CD (2004)

-Debut album here from this new band from La Rochelle, France. Self released on their now aborted label, Little Pink Medecine, it's a nice lil diamond in the rough. This is one of, the best straight trashy rock'n'roll records I've heard by a French band since the TV KIllers last album. Every song has a trademark itchy guitar sound that totally got under my skin. I really loathe to compare them to other bands, they sound like the good parts of the 60's and 70's mixed together in a scuzzy, fuzzy reverb drenched bucket. The production is right on and they play fast without wrecking the melody. This is definately my new favorite record! Anyone interested in "punk" rock (whatever the fuck that means anymore) should definitely check this one out. Viva les Frogs! 13 solid tracks and an Infections cover!

Fut un temps où les TV Killers se prétendaient "fuckin'frenchies", Flying Over sont nettement plus polis que leurs grands frères. En plus, pratiques, ils annoncent la couleur (rose acidulé) dans le titre de leur album. Y a pas tromperie sur la marchandise. Au moins les fans de Lorie ne pourront pas hurler à la publicité mensongère. Flying Over c'est le nouvel OVNI punk-rock de La Rochelle (et de sa banlieue proche), tendance garage 77 (comment çà ça n'existe pas le garage 77 ? et un bourre-pif comme preuve ce serait assez persuasif ?). 13 titres en 25 minutes, si vous espériez découvrir les chantres d'un neo-progressif en pleine crise de création de l'opéra-rock ultime, essayez plutôt l'Obispo à sa mémère, vous aurez plus de chance. Flying Over c'est du teigneux ("Don't fuck with me"), du direct ("Have a blitz on you"), du libidineux ("My girlfriend's not 17"), du violent ("Kill for you"), du déjanté ("Loose control"), du sauvage ("Ne me demandez rien"), à part çà sûrement de charmants garçons... quand ils n'ont pas décidé d'être les Ramones à la place des Neurotic Swingers. Sûr que le titre de plus grand punk-rock band français du monde commence à voir le nombre de ses prétendants croître dans des proportions pachydermiques, ce qui, de toute façon, ne sera pas négligeable quand il faudra sauver le monde de son incurie musicale ("No one here gets out alive...", yeah).

Hier die Bestätigung meiner im SUPERCHARGER-Review aufgestellten Epigonenthese: Noch ein Jahrzehnt nach SUPERCHARER und den RIP OFFS beeinflussen (hier vor allem) Letztere noch nachhaltig die Jugend der Welt. Und das sogar in Frankreich, obwohl doch allgemein bekannt ist, dass der Franzose genetisch bedingt nicht zum Rock'n'Roll taugt, wie schon Johnny Hallyday nachdrücklich unter Beweis gestellt hat. Diese "Frenchies" rocken dessen ungeachtet und machen dabei auch einen durchaus passablen Job. Also wenn ich früher erfahren hätte, dass die Jungs hier in der Nähe spielen, ich wäre hingegangen. (Vielleicht ...) Auch ihr Debüt lässt eigentlich keine Kritik zu, gibt es hier doch straighten Punkrock, der sich an Greg Lowerys Schaffen orientiert. Man sollte allerdings niemals den Fehler begehen, einen Song seiner Vorbilder zu covern, dann aber nur eine mediokre Version abzuliefern (hier geschehen mit "Kill for me" der INFECTIONS). Kann ich auch guten Gewissens sagen, dass man diese Platte nicht unbedingt besitzen muss, bleibt unterm Strich das Fazit positiv. Vielleicht ist schon der nächste Output der große Wurf. (06/10)

Pit's le Rouge, s'il fallait qualifier ce haut lieu du rock and roll ce 17 juillet, c'est bien Rouge qu'il lui collera le mieux ! Rouge car l'ambiance baigne dedans, et Rouge car ce soir le plateau était bordelais avec les plus englishes des punks français, les FLYING OVER et un LIPSTICK VIBRATORS qui a décidé de vibrer tout seul, DUSTY DANDY. Autant vous dire que la soirée fut chaude malgré le temps hivernal qui plombait Kortrijk (et pas seulement Kortrijk d'ailleurs) et le rouge se marie très bien avec le gris. 

La soirée s'annonce lilloise en plein pays flamand, d'ailleurs il n'y avait que des lillois à 19H30, nos voisins flamands ont pointé le bout de leur nez un peu plus tard pour terminer à 50/50. Pas mal pour un plateau 100% français, comme quoi, la zique explose les frontières. En guise d'ouverture, un one man band. Comme le gazouille Loiseau, les one man band, c'est vite chiant. C'est parfois vrai mais... d'autres accrochent. Ici, on a affaire au batteur deLIPSTICK VIBRATORS qui en a marre de tripoter des baguettes alors qu'il pourrait astiquer un manche. Et d'emblée on sent qu'il a l'habitude de les brosser les manches, son Epiphone et sa Gison Jag'Stang en savent quelque chose. Sous ses caresses, elles éjaculent des riffs bien rock et quand il tient le riff, DUSTY DANDY. le triture dans tous les sens, le pousse à bout, le retient au maximum, bien au delà de la moyenne des 2mm 30 des statistiques sur le va et vient (eh oui...). Bref un bon coup rock and roll qui tient en haleine même s'il se fait aider par T.BOY un des boys des FLYING. Des fois, à deux, c'est mieux !

Le sexe n'allait pas s'arrêter là, les FLYING OVER étaient particulièrement chauds ! Ils sont bordelais ces lascars et ils ont encore des relents de l'occupation anglaise suite aux aventures sexuelles d'une sacrée Aliénor. Et pour ceux qui veulent en savoir plus, il fallut attendre le 17 juillet 1453 (coïncidence ?) à la bataille de Castillon pour que les français puissent boire enfin du bordeaux, bonifié entre temps il faut le signaler. Le concert commence très vite et très fort, du punk anglais mélodique et hargneux balancé à toute vitesse, un plaisir pour les oreilles. A gauche, T.BOY venait chatouiller avec sa basse les zones érogènes des oreilles des premiers rangs, au fond, GUN BOY, le batteur tirait ses coups sans besoin de pilules bleues et devant, JET BOY et JET GIRL s'en donnaient à cœur joie. Le premier faisait crier JET GIRL en lui mordillant les seins, cette dernière, plus branchée sur les préliminaires et habile de la langue, soutirait de sa gratte des riffs de bonheur en lui titillant l'oreille... Avant d'aller lui presser les burnes pour faire gicler des riffs d'enfer de sa RickenBacker, une guitare de mâle en rut. Il y a du Aliénor dans tout ça... Et pour pimenter cette partouze sonique, les FLYING OVER entre leurs passes, nous ont balancé un petit Get over you des UNDERTONES pour terminer à 22h00 (les orgasmes gênent les voisins du Pits le Rouge après 22h00) par un Do you love the nazis des KIDS. Pris dans cette folie, je n'y avais même pas fait gaffe tant cela me semblait naturel. Heureusement que Loiseau a l’ouïe fine.

LIVE REVIEW  LIZARDS + FLYING OVER - Sala Pierrot Lunar / Maçanet de la selva (Spain) - Feb 2011 

Hi ha pel·lícules que en pocs anys passen a ser de culte... El Pierrot Lunar de Maçanet de la Selva ja s'hi ha convertit com a lloc pels amants del bon rock'n'roll independent i underground a la comarca de la Selva. Divendres 11 de Febrer vam presenciar el retorn de dues bandes que ja hi havien actuat en solitari, aquest cop hi van actuar juntes per l'amistat que les uneix.

Van obrir la nit, aquest trio de fèmines barcelonines, The Lizards, que venien a presentar el seu recent primer àlbum "Stalking the Prey". Un treball que fa 15 dies que es pot trobar al mercart musical, on les "lagartes" combinen la passió pel punkrock i també pel hardrock en els seus 11 temes. Una barreja explosiva que et fa ballar i cantar. També van desgranar algun nou tema que no està inclòs en aquest Cd, de caire més hardrockero... acabant com no amb la seva mítica versió de la Joan Jett "Bad Reputation", tot un himne per elles.

A continuació, van actuar els/la francesos Flying Over, un grup, que al primer pas per aquest pub, varen deixar unes molt bones sensacions en directe, i aquesta segona vegada i van tornar. Lo seu, es decanta pel garatge-punk d'aires "retro". Amb la combinació de dues veus, femenina, la vocalista i masculina la del guitarra/cantant, varen anar interpretant els temes del seu nou recent treball discogràfic, un Lp / Cd anomenat "No One Here Gets Out Alive!". 11 cançons (amb versió inclosa dels TV Killers, uns compatriotes seus dels 90's) on la durada dels temes és d'una mitjana de dos minuts i poc. L'últim cop portaven un Ep "Are you a Punk", amb tres temes que estan inclosos en aquest nou àlbum també, però amb una sonoritat inferior que l'Lp, gravats al 2008. La veritat és que tenen un directe molt energètic i divertit de veure, on a part de tocar els temes nous, van fer-ne més i ens van obsequiar fins i tot amb un parell de versions, dels belgues The Kids, i dels nord-irlandesos, The Undertones.

Una bona vetllada per suar la cansalada!!

No cada dia és té la oportunitat de gaudir de bones bandes de rock'n'roll de forma gratuïta.

Il fallait les attraper au vol les FLYING OVER et Rock and Roll Jihad via Peggy a réussi à les faire atterrir à Lille au Centre Culturel Libertaire un lundi soir. Pari risqué pensez vous ? Non, ces bordelais traînent une solide réputation de punk rocker et ont laissé de beaux souvenirs quand ils étaient passés à la Chimère. Et le CCL est bien rempli pour un lundi. Mais comme une bonne nouvelle n'arrive jamais seule (comme les emmerdes d'ailleurs), un groupe tournaisien,EDITH and TWO MAN's, des compresseurs de musique et ABSTRACT ARTIMUS, un osni venu de New York s'étaient aussi arrêtés au CCL. La semaine commençait sous les meilleurs auspices. 

Ceux qui aiment la musique compressée ne risquent pas d'être déçus avec EDITH and TWO MAN's. Ce trio venu de l'outre quiévrain, ce pays sans gouvernement mais sans sarko fait dans un hardcore/noise hyper speedé avec des compos ne dépassant pas la minute. Vingt minutes de concert, 13 morceaux, les 7mm restantes étant destinées au ravitaillement en bières. Avec EDITH and TWO MAN's on est loin des clichés habituels du hardcore, leur musique est envahie d'un bruit de fond noise des années 90 surdopant encore leurs compos ultravitaminées. Au cerveau de ceux qui en prennent plein la tronche, de décompresser le fruit de leur imagination débridée qui s'appuie sur des plans solides. 

ABSTRACT ARTIMUS... Le nom soulève des interrogations, la tronche du guitariste aussi. Il avait déjà fait un saut au chant de 45 secondes dans un des météore d'EDITH and TWO MAN's. On s'interrogeait sérieusement sur ce type mi-gourou/mi-Charles Manson qui accroche le regard. Et leur zique pose le même problème. Le trio fait dans un rock très pêchu quasi impossible à raccrocher à quelque chose de rassurant. Et pourtant on a cherché... En définitive, je propose un mélange explosif des seventies allant au delà des limites acceptables de l'époque. Rythmes hypnotiques complétement explosés par des breaks incessants, guitare saccadée, une musique imprévisible qui étonne donnant une furieuse envie d'être redécouverte malheureusement, à leur actif ils n'ont qu'une face de 45t mais tout un paquet de morceaux à télécharger gratos.

FLYING OVER atterrit enfin. Il sont 4 et pas 5 pilotes comme la dernière fois. Ce qui ne les empêche pas de se lancer dans un super concert franchement punk à l'anglaise avec des accents des années 77 sans oublier une touche ricaine des mêmes années. Le mélange est très réussi. On accroche immédiatement à ces sonorités qui font vibrer les cases mémoires concernées. Rien n'est à jeter, les compos frappent juste et fort avec en final un RAMONES à la sauce bordelaise apprécié. Leur nouveau skeud (No One Here. Gets Ot Alive) proposé en CD ou en LP (si le transporteur retrouve le colis) s'écoute en boucle sans fatigue. A ranger à côté d'UNWANTED TATTOO entre SEX PISTOLS et Johnny THUNDERS and the HEARTBREAKERS.
